About Noël van Dooren

Noël van Dooren has been associated with Aeres University of Applied Sciences in Almere as a research fellow since June of 2021. He is a landscape architect and works two days a week as an adviser to the Dutch province of South Holland on spatial quality, advising Gedeputeerde Staten (the provincial executive) by request and on his own initiative. He works as a freelance adviser, researcher and publicist.

In the past few years, he has focused on the interface of food, agriculture and landscape as a professor at Van Hall Larentstein Velp for the Sustainable Food Systems in Urban Regions professorship. Nowadays, Noël participates in the NWA research project ‘Transition to a Sustainable Food System, 2021 – 2024.

Together with students from various universities of applied sciences, he develops new food systems. One of the research subjects is studying the way in which a smart building can contribute to the innovation of food systems, where short chains play a prominent role. In this way, he works with students from Den Bosch, Amsterdam, Wageningen and other cities. He collects data from the educational collaborations for research, thereby creating multidisciplinary projects on various subjects, such as landscape, design, and a vision of the future.

Noël is currently contributing to the subjects of landscape and design at our University of Applied Sciences.
