The study programme

As food production processes become more complicated and there are more parties involved, the potential risk of food safety being compromised increases. This is why food safety has become a top priority in the food processing industry. Food safety management professionals around the world closely monitor the safety of food products according to high standards to ensure that the food on our plates is fit for consumption. Our exchange programme in Food Safety Management teaches you all there is to know about managing food safety. It also provides you with an international learning experience and the opportunity to add value to your undergraduate programme.

Programme content

This is what you will learn

This programme is made up of 2 minors of 15 ECTS each.

Minors

  • International Food Safety Management

    This first minor prepares you for a career in food safety management, for example as a food quality and safety manager, an international food quality systems auditor and a food safety assurance advisor. It focuses on the food processing industry and teaches you how to set up, manage and monitor a food safety system, in order to report to, advise or audit a food company. In different classes, you will learn about various processing technologies, internal food quality and safety management systems, and food safety related requirements and legislation.

  • Food Systems in Transition

    The second minor teaches you how to analyse challenges and identify opportunities and transition pathways, and how to convert your analysis into a product, a business, a strategy or some advice that truly contributes to a sustainable food system. For this, you will receive a comprehensive overview of the current food systems in the world, and in the Netherlands in particular. This means you will learn about the changes in food consumption, production patterns, markets and policies. You will also learn about the drivers of the transition of food systems, how the transition is influenced by consumers’ needs, and what business opportunities come from the transition.
