Study without worries in all circumstances

Aeres University of Applied Sciences values personal contact highly. Due to the small scale of the faculties, there is good contact between students and teachers. Every academic year, you have a mentor or academic career coach who is your first point of contact. He/she helps you with your study progress and regularly checks in with you to discuss how things are going. In addition to the mentor/academic career coach, there are also confidential advisers, deans, student coaches, and Impuls, where you can go if you are dealing with personal problems or special circumstances.

  • Studying with a disability

At Aeres University of Applied Sciences, we believe that a disability should not hinder your academic journey. By a disability, we mean an official diagnosis of a condition that can make studying challenging, such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, an anxiety disorder, or depression. This can also include a physical, visual, or auditory impairment, or a chronic illness.

If this applies to you, you can count on additional facilities and guidance from a student dean or student coach. We aim to create an environment where you experience as few obstacles as possible despite your disability and to support you in the best way possible, so you can pursue and successfully complete your studies with minimal challenges.

Moreover, we support your development, helping you grow in your independence and in managing the consequences of your disability. Our experience shows that with this additional support and guidance, you can generally progress through your studies very well.

Before you start your studies, we ask you to indicate if you foresee any potential study barriers. This allows us to take timely measures. Would you like to know what facilities are available for you? Make an appointment with the student dean and discuss the study barriers you foresee. Don’t wait, because the sooner your support is arranged, the sooner you can benefit from it.

  • Extra support during your study

Do you need extra support during your study? For example, because you experience performance anxiety or have difficulty planning your study? At Aeres University of Applied Sciences, you can expect help from your mentor or academic career coach, who monitors your study progress and regularly discusses how things are going with you. However, sometimes you might need additional support to study comfortably.

Our student coach, student dean, and Impuls are here for you if you need a little extra help. This may involve guidance in planning and studying effectively, or support if you’re not feeling well due to stress, performance anxiety, gloominess, or motivation problems. If you are dealing with something difficult in your private life, such as a sick family member or a bereavement, you can also turn to them.

Together with the student coach or student dean, you will look at what you need to regain more control over your situation and your studies. Your mentor or academic career coach can refer you, but you can also contact them directly.

Topics in which the student coach, student dean, and Impuls can support you include:

    • Performance anxiety
    • Building/increasing self-confidence
    • Planning and organizing your studies
    • (Study) stress
    • Coping with your disability
  • Support for unwanted behavior and other issues

Are you experiencing unwanted behavior from others during your studies, or do you have other issues that you cannot or do not want to discuss with your mentor or academic career coach? At Aeres University of Applied Sciences, you can seek help and support from a confidential adviser.

If you encounter boundary-crossing behavior such as inappropriate conduct, bullying, discrimination, (sexual) harassment, assault, or rape, you can contact the confidential adviser. The confidential adviser can also support you with other social-emotional problems, serving as a listening ear and a mediator.

If you and the confidential adviser cannot resolve the issue, there is also the option to file a formal complaint with the complaints committee. This committee examines the complaint and can take action within a relatively short period

  • Studying with your own business

Do you already have your own business at the start of your studies, or are you working on setting up your own business during your studies? We can help you in various ways. There are different ways you can focus on your own business during your studies. For example, in Dronten, it is possible to carry out assessments and final assignments for your own business, and in your fourth year, you can even graduate within your own business through the so-called 'Green Starters Program.
