About Mirka Macel
Dr. Mirka Macel has been associated with Aeres University of Applied Sciences since April of 2021 as the professor of Resilient Plants. She conducts practice-based research on the resilience of plants to stress factors, focusing on resilience against insect plagues (trips, among other insects). She works with the teachers of the plant department and the Applied Biology programme on practice-based research and on education about plant resilience. She supervises students in their research for semestrial internships and graduation research on plants and insects. She also coordinates a research consortium in the field of sustainable crop protection.
Mirka studied biology at Leiden University and obtained her doctorate there in plant and insect interaction and in the diversity of antibodies in plants. After her doctorate, she, among other things, conducted research at foreign universities (Fribourg, UC Davis, Tübingen), where she not only researched plant and insect interaction and in the diversity of antibodies in plants, but local adaptation of plants to the soil and the climate as well. She studied both natural systems and crops, among other things the resistance to trips in capsicums.
