Introduction

The study programme

In stark contrast to Asia, Europe has seen a decline in pig production in the past few decades. Additionally, the European pig population is divided among a small number of large farms. Because of this, pig farmers focus more and more on the business side of things and on technological development. In the meantime, they have to take into account animal welfare, sustainability, legislation and the environment. Our exchange programme in International Pig Management provides you with an international learning experience and the opportunity to add value to your undergraduate programme. It is part of a bachelor’s degree programme with the same name and teaches you all there is to know about managing and developing pig farms, either as an owner, a manager or an advisor.

This is what you will learn

This programme is made up of 2 modules of 13 ECTS each. Both modules involve practical training in the form of research that you carry out for a pig farmer. This concludes with you presenting a report with your findings and a proposal for improvements in an advisory meeting with the farmer.
